Join us on Tuesday, November 3, for a professional development seminar for high school teachers that will address the New Museum’s Fall 2015 R&D (Research and Development) Season theme of PERSONA. This Season considers the ways and means by which we craft and present ourselves to others, while exploring the roles that the media, celebrity culture, politics, theater, and art play across the spectrum of subjecthood from “self” to “character."

Morning Session
Free
9:30 AM: Registration
10–11:30 AM
Join Emily Mello, Associate Director of Education, for a presentation and a discussion drawing upon examples from the work of PERSONA artists in residence and current conversations regarding projections of identity across cultural and social spheres. Over the last few decades, visual culture and new media studies have heavily influenced an approach to arts education that interrogates images from advertising, popular culture, and fine arts alike to consider how notions of identity are influenced, constructed, and consumed. How might this generation’s unprecedented experience in not only consuming images but also crafting them on the same platforms as celebrity icons, politicians, and corporate brands demand new questions for navigating selfhood and persona?

Afternoon Session
$5, payable on the day of the workshop
1–3 PM
Join Shaun Leonardo, artist and Manager of G:Class and Community Programs, for a closer look at the featured exhibition Wynne Greenwood’s “Kelly” and participate in dynamic hands-on activities, including art-making, writing, and performance, to engage the theme of PERSONA in your classroom.

The New Museum welcomes educators of all disciplines, but this program is geared toward high school teachers. Reservations are honored on a first-come, first-served basis. Workshop space is limited.

RSVP is required. RSVP HERE!
